Western medical science has repeatedly studied the remarkable healing powers of eclipta alba for the past sixty years, concluding each time that this amazing plant is one of the most potent sources of natural remedies available. Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India and the oldest medicinal discipline in the world, has long known of the potential of eclipta alba.
The plant has been used in India for over 5000 years to treat a range of ailments, including everything from headaches and migraines to treating worm infestations and liver detoxification. The plant’s leaves, roots and stem all contain a mixture of chemicals the body needs to fight infection, treat diseases and cure the sick. It is one of nature’s own wonder drugs in herbal form.
Treating Worms with Eclipta Alba
Worm infestations can be very common, especially in young children because their immune systems are underdeveloped and cannot fight off infections as easily. This leads to easy infestations of tape worms, which can be deadly if left unchecked.
Fortunately eclipta alba leaf extract is a strong anti-worm remedy. Simply mix between 3 and 6 teaspoons of left extract with some honey and give it to your child once a day for a week. Because babies and younger children should not be given honey (it can lead to upper respiratory tract infections and other diseases of the lungs due to their underdeveloped immune systems), honey should be substituted for castor oil. This makes the leaf extract (which is already rather bitter) taste bad, but it is much safer for the child.
Pin worm infestations are equally as bad as tape worms. Fortunately the treatment is the same. Give the child 3-6 teaspoons of eclipta leaf extract mixed with honey or castor oil and the pin worms will be deal with swiftly.
Where leaf extract is unavailable, use eclipta powder instead. This is a dried mixture of leaf and root and it contains the same active chemicals. Because it is a powder rather than a liquid, you must make sure the powder is mixed thoroughly before use.
Liver Detoxifying Eclipta
The leaves of the eclipta alba plant contain potent anti-herpatotoxin chemicals that are essential to the treatment of liver cirrhosis. The active chemicals here are wedelolactone and desmethylwedelolactone, both of which are active in the treatment of cirrhosis and the prevention of further liver damage.
The eclipta leaf extract is a potent antiviral that is used in the treatment of viral hepatitis. This is a major source of liver damage but treatment with eclipta alba, when the plant is broken down into its active chemicals and turned into pill form, has been demonstrated effective in many scientific studies.
Eclipta’s Healing Potential
A topical paste made from eclipta leaf extract has been used in the treatment of migraines for centuries. Eclipta leaf extract is therefore an excellent treatment for headaches when applied to the forehead or the scalp over the area where the pain is worst.
The reason this works is because the detoxifying eclipta plant is a strong anti-inflammatory. Both the leaf and root can be mixed into a topical paste that will soothe insect bites as well as treating or preventing swelling. When mixed into a paste, the eclipta should be coated liberally across the affected area and allowed to soak into the skin.
Eclipta alba is widely used in ayurveda for the treatment of anemia. The leaf extract has been shown to raise hemoglobin levels in patients with anemia. Where leaf extract is unavailable on its own, using eclipta powder (made from dried root and leaf) is an acceptable substitute.
Coughs and chronic asthma have a tendency to plague children in the modern world. Eclipta alba juice, which is made from a mixture of honey and leaf extract, soothes coughs and helps to relieve the symptoms of asthma. Again, very young children should not be given honey because it causes more problems than it solves, so replace the honey with castor oil when treating babies and very young children.
Many doctors in India now use Ayurveda alongside their traditional medical practices because of the benefits it provides. With time-honoured traditional medicines such as eclipta alba being so potent, it should come as no surprise that the results of mixing traditional and modern medicine are very effective. Plants like eclipta alba are incredibly powerful treatments that western science is now harnessing to produce some of the most effective remedies available.
